- Body: Black seal’s fur or substitute
- Rib: Fine round silver tinsel or wire
- Hackle: Blue jay tied as a beard
- Wing: Bronze mallard
- Head: Black tying silk and clear varnish

- A useful addition to any angler’s fly box. Hailing from Ireland as the name suggests, this fly is equally at home taking trout, sea trout and salmon.
- On the larger patterns, you can palmer a black cock or hen hackle down the body. You can also add a hackle of black hen at the head prior to adding the blue jay.
