  • Tail: Red Ibis substitute or scarlet cock hackle fibres
  • Body: Flat silver Tinsel
  • Rib: Fine round Silver tinsel or wire
  • Hackle: Black hen hackle.
  • Wing: Slips from the blue wing feathers of a mallard duck
  • Head: Black tying silk and clear varnish
  • Notes: One of the most famous traditional patterns of all time. Developed over a century ago, this fly has been indispensable for catching brown trout and is held in high esteem when fished for seatrout.
