Fishing on the River Monnow
Our upper River Monnow beat, located between Abergavenny and Pontrilas, is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with wonderful views of Ysgyryd Fawr, aka, Skirrid.
The River Monnow beat is a mixture of single and double-bank fishing and offers various waters and fishing environments. From large smooth glides which come alive with ephemera spinners on summer evenings, to more technical pocket water towards the top of the beat, our River Monnow beat has an abundance of different scenarios to make any angler happy.
The beat holds some of the most beautiful trout and grayling in South Wales and, thanks to the latter, also enables our members to fish during the winter months.
Wading is generally easy throughout this beat, and the water is best fished with 8.5ft to 9.5ft rods.
