You may or may not be aware that there is a threat to your fishing by uncontrolled access to the river by other river users.
In the first instance recognise that we are not against anyone enjoying the river, but that access must be controlled for the sake of the environment as well as those that pay for the right to legitimately use and care for the river.
As you have been previously told the Welsh Government is proposing a bill that will allow recreational access to the rivers and inland waterways of Wales without the need to ask permission or without consequence to disturbing your right to fish.
A new organization has been formed which is supported by other organisations such as Countryside Alliance, Angling Trust, Angling Cymru, Country Landowners Association and many more.
This will be known as the SACC (Sustainable Access Campaign Cymru). They have today launched a website at www.accesscymru.org.
If you do nothing else I would ask you to go to the website and register your support for the campaign.
Our own Society has entered into agreements whereby Canoeists can access the river without detriment to either the river or you the angler and it is working well.
An argument is being put forward that these Voluntary Access Agreements (VAA’s) do not work.
We are aware that if any canoe club wishes to enter such an agreement that are threatened with being barred from doing so by the Canoe Unions of both Britain and Wales.
Please consider this request seriously and if you feel able give your support.
