Fished at Ty Mawr this afternoon, weather was awful, cold, wet and windy. River was running high but clear. Saw two salmon running through by the gas pipe. At 2:30 the rain stopped, the wind died and there was a massive hatch of LDO’s, which lasted until 4:00 pm. Not a lot of fish rising but I hooked 15 and managed to land 10. Most were around 12 ozs with the two largest over a pound.
All were caught on a ducks dun (see article on this site) size 16. The fish were only rising in water sheltered from the wind, were the LDO’s were being concentrated in foam lines. Unusually the presentation was not absolutely critical and as long as the fly was fairly near, it was taken.
Sorry there are no photos, but my camera and phone got soaked and died.
So tie up some ducks duns get on the river and be prepared to wait out the weather.
