The EA have stocked 1,000 grayling in the River Dearne between Barnsley and Wakefield. 2,000 have gone into the River Aire and another 1,000 have been stocked in the River Don.
According to the report grayling are native to these rivers. Not wanting to dispute the fact that the Aire and Don have long standing grayling fishing I have never heard of any being caught in my local river, the Dearne. It will be interesting to see how these fish fare in a river where chub have almost totally displaced trout.
In the same report is news that an 11lb salmon was caught by an EA survey team last month in the Don.
Both the Don and Dearne have extensive free stretches.
